| In the fall of 1902, Miami University in Oxford, Ohio opened its doors to women for the first time. Among these women were the founders of the Delta Zeta Sorority: Julia Bishop, Anne Simmons, Anna Keen, Alfa Lloyd, Mary Collins and Mabelle Minton. With the help of the new president, Dr. Guy Potter Benton, Delta Zeta was formed in less than two weeks of the start of school. The women chose the name of the sorority, the Killarney Rose as the official flower and the colors of pink and green. The badge of Delta Zeta was soon chosen and is now referred to as one of the most beautiful sorority badges. Delta Zeta sorority was officially incorporated on October 24, 1902 (Alfa Lloyd's birthday) becoming the first sorority at Miami University. Dr. Guy Potter Benton was named Grand Patron of Delta Zeta for his assistance in our founding. |

Through the years Delta Zeta has grown tremendously, adding new chapters and initiating many wonderful women. Delta Zeta now has 165 collegiate chapters from coast to coast and 250 alumni chapters in the 50 states, as well as the United Kingdom and Canada.
